The Austrian Society for Allergology and Immunology is once again offering a prize of € 4000 for outstanding work in the field of basic immunological research for the year 2026. This prize is sponsored by the company ALK. The submitter must be an ÖGAI member.

Prizes are awarded for scientific papers on experimental or clinical allergology that have been produced at a research institution in Austria and published within the last 2 years in a recognized scientific journal with a rigorous review system. Experimental work should be clearly related to clinical questions. This work may not have previously won an award or been submitted for an award elsewhere at the same time. Due to the more and more interdisciplinary nature of scientific research (e.g. combination of wet-lab and bioinformatics approaches) and thus also the increased number of shared first-author publications in high-profile journals, the ÖGAI board has slightly adapted the submission criteria. For this prize, one first-author work per scientist can be submitted. If there a several co-first authors that meet the eligibility criteria, then co-authors are encouraged to submit their work jointly. Resubmissions are possible.

The submission deadline is June 30, 2026.

The work is to be sent to office@oegai.org as a complete pdf document with a reduced size including scanned, handwritten signed declarations of consent from the co-authors and a short CV.

The ÖGAI board decides on the award of the prize after a strict review and ranking by independent international experts. The prize will not be shared (unless co-first authors submitted jointly, then the award and prize money would be shared) and will be presented at the next Annual Meeting of the ÖGAI, 4-6 November 2026, Vienna, Austria.
